Bush Killer dominating local entertainment

By Daniel Chigunwe

Mashonaland Central fast rising music producer Jussy Kumbukani of the Bush Killer Studio has managed to build a heavy brand name among local talented artists something he says is the fruitful of hard work.
The  studio which began in 2014 and is located in the town of Mvurwi is now home to the many youths who are joining the growing genre of Zimdance Hall catering for musicians as far as Centenary, Dande Valley, Mutorashanga, Bindura, Mt Darwin and several parts of the province and Mash West included.
“We are happy with the pace that I am moving at, together as the Bush Killer family we are making serious strides in the entertainment sector.
“I started from the bottom way back in 2014 and by then our studio had few items but I did not lose the vision and today I am one of the most recognized producer in this province,” said Kumbukani.
Recently in November the family shot a video medley in Victoria Falls and Kariba, “yes we did videos in Kariba and Vic Falls, this is one of our greatest achievement as we are trying to make our music national, it is also a way of promoting our local tourist sites and taking pride in the heritages that we have as Zimbabweans,”.
Bush Killer said the studio owes many thanks to one all-weather friend and promoter Shingirayi Rungangah popularly known as Shungers, “Shungers is always there for us assisting with funding, equipment for the studio, he is the only promoter in Mvurwi who has stood by us to reach these greater heights, he also made our tour to Vic Falls and Kariba successful by his contribution”.
Nevertheless, the artists are bemoaning lack of airplay from local radio stations which is limiting their impact in the showbiz sector, “access to airplay is a challenge for us here and we are partly disappointed with certain figures in the music industry who asks us to raise money and bring other things so that we get played but unfortunately they do not honour their word,” said another artist, Slim G.
Several great works of art have been pulled down by lack to media coverage, access to air play and many artist who are based in marginalized areas are finding it difficult to showcase their works to the world.
Among the challenges being faced by these artists is music distribution as they are still relying on sharing their produced music via Bluetooth and WhatsApp which calls for a serious need to popularize the power of internet platforms like YouTube, SoundClound, Vidmate and Facebook to access a larger audience.
Some of the big names which forms the Bush Killer family are artists like Ding also known as Bondan’a, Wislah, Stifla, Soul Jah Lee, SeanBway, Lady D, Tracey and Floss.
Meanwhile, the Bush Killer family has organized a 2018 Summer Shut Down to be featured by Lady Squanda on 22 December.
Speaking to ShowBiz Times, promoter Shungers said he is committed to supporting the group and has been doing so since a long time ago, “I have a new band kit that I bought for the guys and will present it to them when I am coming home from South Africa, I have always been keen to assist the group so that they keep going ahead and dominate the showbiz industry,”.
