By Simbarashe Sithole- SUNGURA artist Somandla “Mafia” Ndebele affectionately known as Soma by his supporters has lamented piracy which has prompted him to name his forth coming album as Kurimira Hanga.
Having recorded about 25 albums since 1999 Soma is now holding live shows at slow pace and taking his time in releasing albums.Speaking to Newsday life and Style at Nzvimbo growth point in Chiweshe over the weekend at victory celebrations of Mazowe Central constituency legislator Sydney Chidamba, Soma said the industry is no longer paying him due to piracy.
“It is so painful that we labour for our music but someone on the streets just burn CDs and sell them on the streets (ndokunonzi kurimira hanga) so l have a 5 track album coming between June and July called Kurimira hanga, we are in serious trouble with piracy, “said Ndebele.
“We are now conducting shows at a very slow pace because in some instances we fail to get money and my boys will still need from me so it is better to stay home and only go for shows when duty calls.”
Meanwhile, Soma shared the stage in Chiweshe with Sulumani Chimbetu, Simon Mutambi and Mvurwi based artist and comedian Lloyd Jack aka Matumbu ahead of thousands of people that came for the victory celebrations.
